My Philosophy of Teaching Mathematics
I firmly believe that the student is the most important component of the education system. Each student is an individual requiring nurture, stimulation and respect. As an educator, I strive to provide students with a collaborative environment that is open to empowerment, growth and exploration.
Students should be able to drive their learning and decide what kind of human being they wish to be. This affords the opportunity for the learning to adapt to the problems of the times. With students driving the focus on important issues, the education system will have the flexibility it requires.
As a teacher, I should be the facilitator of learning allowing students the freedom to make their own decisions and judgments about the information presented. Great discoveries will be made when students are encouraged to think outside of the box. Teachers should help guide students to looking past the conformities of a box and expand into new horizons.
With the student as the center of learning, they can be responsible for their own learning. Learning requires a framework and students can find that structure with a practical process allowing complex thinking and problem solving to occur in the classroom and in real life experiences.
With these three principles as my foundation, teaching is an optimal way to witness empowerment, growth and exploration within the educational system as well as in society.
